Draft registration crackdown hits five alleged slackers
In Sil Bow county Finlander Finor Kangas and Swede Oscar Serrom were charged by the U S district attorney with failing to register for the draft. They were bound to federal court on bonds of 1000 each after pleas of not guilty were entered. A hearing was set for June in Butte as investigators press the statewide effort to register hundreds of men. Local clerk offices saw many try to register with few successful due to card shortages and the looming midnight deadline.

Sargent to paint Wilson for Gallery of Ireland
Dublin Times correspondent reports John Sargent has agreed to paint a portrait of President Wilson for Ireland's National Gallery. The board notes the late Sir Hugh Lane offered $50,000 for a portrait Sargent began for the Red Cross, with Lane's bequest to the National Gallery upheld by a court ruling. The gallery board sees a portrait of the greatest American president by the greatest American artist as a real acquisition.
