London dispatch reports the British cabinet backing a new Irish settlement offer to be presented to Eamonn de Valera. Key ministers, including Lloyd George and Sir Robert Horne, approved terms amid Ulster premier Craig’s cautious but favorable stance. A tripartite conference with Ulster’s James Craig remains likely, with de Valera and Lloyd George set to meet tomorrow.
Joe Novak, Spokane Country Club pro and former Butte man, qualified for the U S open with 78 as Dr Clarke Corkoran from Baltimore withdrew before finishing. In Walla Walla on Tuesday night thieves cut the jail outer window bars and carried away all bond and moonshine whiskey stored for months by bootleggers. A gallon jug of lower quality liquor was left. The sheriff seeks state penitentiary help to identify the culprits.

Walsh questioned the truth of Sims remarks and warned of retribution as he urged peaceful settlement between England and Ireland in current peace talks.
Springfield July 20. Gov Len Small Lt Gov Sterling and Vernon Curtis indicted by Sangamon County grand jury for embezzlement conspiracy and confidence game involving state funds from 1917 to 1921. Four indictments allege $500000 to $700000 embezzlement and 2400000 in interest. Warrants issued for all three as probe centers on Grant Park bank deposits.
AP reports a massive fire at the Amatlan oil fields in Vera Cruz, with drilling towers toppling and workers fleeing. The blaze began at lot No 162 and spread rapidly to nearby wells, causing heavy damage and feared loss of life as flames rise hundreds of feet high.
Randolph, a business man missing since Monday with a $50,000 ransom demanded, was arrested after returning to his father in law Roger Fogle. The arrest came on orders of the mayor and postal inspectors. He appeared exhausted and incoherent during the hearing.
