Novak Qualifies In U S Open With 78 In Golf

Joe Novak, Spokane Country Club pro and former Butte man, qualified for the U S open with 78 as Dr Clarke Corkoran from Baltimore withdrew before finishing. Douglas to Take Up School Duties First of August

Albert H. Douglas of Logansport Indiana has been elected superintendent of Butte schools to replace W E Maddock. He plans to return with Mrs Douglas around August 1 to assume duties after final interviews with the school board. The board aims to resolve E F Maginn’s resignation soon and will await county attorney opinion on a street matter before acting. The $300000 bond issue to retire warrants will be bid open August 16.

Thieves Break Jail Window Steal Bond Moonshine Whiskey

In Walla Walla on Tuesday night thieves cut the jail outer window bars and carried away all bond and moonshine whiskey stored for months by bootleggers. A gallon jug of lower quality liquor was left. The sheriff seeks state penitentiary help to identify the culprits.

Springfield July 20. Gov Len Small Lt Gov Sterling and Vernon Curtis indicted by Sangamon County grand jury for embezzlement conspiracy and confidence game involving state funds from 1917 to 1921.
