Oklahoma man currently Drumright superintendent of schools meets with local board trustees in Butte for interviews. He holds a salary of five thousand dollars per year and may be considered for the superintendent post amid ongoing discussions.
Drumright Okla superintendent W French arrived in Butte for an interview with the board of education over the superintendency. He noted a $85,000 salary, 108 teachers in Drumright, and two years left on his contract. He came at Professor Judd’s suggestion, has 20 years in the field, and will administer if chosen. Two more candidates from Indiana and Pennsylvania are due next week.
A vehicle rollover on a county road about eight miles south of Butte injured three people and killed one. Jake Holland was among the occupants, with emergency responders aiding the injured at the scene and transporting others to area hospitals. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
New York July 16 Associated Press reports United States assay office workers in Wall Street weighed and tested vast amounts of gold totaling about fifteen hundred million dollars or one fifth of the world’s supply. Britain held a 4.5 billion dollar debt to the U.S., but the payment settles all claims between the war department and the British ministry of shipping.

Los Angeles July 16. Kidnapped by three men after a night battle on a Santa Monica beach, Rodemar of Los Banos was held prisoner for ten days. His torn vest was found July 8 on a highway miles from Santa Monica. He was slugged from behind, blindfolded, and forced to travel by train toward Los Banos. He returned to the city after a week in captivity and identified one supposed captor who claimed he was not the man responsible.
