In Seattle July 9 the Tracy chase stalls as guards patrol the Renton to Black River area. A Renton jail stop yields three suspects, while Merrill’s possible join with Tracy remains unproven. Rumors link Merrill to the fourth accomplice but are dismissed.
Seattle July 9 Tracy the outlaw appears to have vanished from the area with deputies guarding Renton and Seattle. Reports place him fleeing toward Bethel or Meadow Point, with whispers of a staged home visit and a boy sent to buy revolvers. The deal follows a July 1 wage schedule raising pay about 20 percent despite prior rejection. In Illinois, Burlington and Quincy carrier shipped 140 cars. Cheyenne sees Union Pacific hiring non union machinists amid blistering debate.
Missouri and Kaw rivers at Kansas City rise to bank full levels after last night’s heavy rains. In the Kaw, several cellars flood and water nears bridge floors in the lower city.
Atchison Kansas July 9 heavy rainfall across Northern Kansas last night and this morning dumped one to one and a half inches of water, believed to have irreparably damaged wheat.
In Whatcom, Washington, July 4 a masked intruder bound and gagged a Gifford wife, robbed the home of $140 and a $100 concealed in a purse, then set the house ablaze. The woman freed herself, cried for help, and mill hands rescued her as the house burned. Sheriff Brisbin leads a posse in a wide search, with fears of lynching if caught. the robber may have fled into British Columbia.

Rome reports the Vatican has delivered its answer to Governor Taft on Philippine religious affairs. The reply, written in French, is being translated by Bishop O Gorman and Major Porter and will be telegraphed to Washington tonight.

The schooner Pearl arrived in San Francisco with codfish and reported sailing through a vast field of pumice on the ocean surface about 400 miles southeast of Unalaska. The pumice was first sighted on June 26 and the vessel traversed roughly 90 miles through it in a nearly solid stretch.
G C Rowan trapped in a Florence hotel bus frightened horses during a disaster attempt to escape by leaping from the vehicle. He was thrown to the ground and died a few minutes later leaving investigators to assess the tragedy at the scene.
G Rown representative of Swift & Co. in Montana for seven years died after leaping from a runaway hotel bus in Missoula. He was 38, left a mother and two sisters, carried $5,000 in insurance, and was en route to Helena when the accident occurred. Fellow Swift & Co. agent A I Coffey survived, staying to arrange the remains.
Special Dispatch reports in Helena that disbarment proceedings were begun in the Montana supreme court by James Sullivan of Butte against lawyer B S Thresher over alleged acts of moral turpitude malpractice and deceit. Sullivan accuses Thresher of pocketing 48 50 wages from Montana Ore Purchasing in 1901 and of related falsehoods and securities deals including a deed misrepresented as a mortgage. The court ordered Thresher to appear July 21 to answer the accusations.
