Jonathan C. Baker known as J C Baker one of Montana's first residents died at his son in law R A Kunkel's home 650 South Jackson last evening at age 82. Born May 3 1838 in Mechanicsburg Ohio he joined California gold fields at 16 and later mined in Helena Bannack and Butte where he ran hotels and restaurants including the Vir Chop House St Nicholas and Bakers restaurant. He survived Alaska ventures and the 1869 Helena fire. Funeral planned for 2 PM Saturday at the Kunkel home with Montana Society of Plow Deer members attending.
