Pilot 15 given free hand may decide on lateral cruises

The dirigible Los Angeles bound for Lakehurst New Jersey was off Serbiana bank about 325 miles from France Field Panama Canal Zone and 200 miles east of Pointa Gorda Honduras at 10 o clock tonight. No further details were released by the navy department.

Los Angeles dirigible heads home from Caribbean voyage

The Los Angeles is returning to Guacanayabo bay after leaving France Field Panama at 10:15 AM. The crew led by Lieut Com C E Rosendahl reported a 40 hour flight to the isthmus and an estimated 30 hours to complete the journey to the Patoka anchored at Guacanayabo bay, about 754 miles from Panama.

Series of earthquakes rattles Bakersfield oil fields

A sequence of quakes struck Bakersfield and outlying oil communities on February 28 after 7 pm. Shocks were strongest in Oildale and Oil Center with eight or nine tremors reported, beginning with rattling doors and ending with a roar like a blast. The area spanned north of Bakersfield through East Bakersfield to Edison.

Leader of Miners Shot in Pittston Ambush

Alex Campbell of Pittston leader of the United Mine Workers faction at No. 6 colliery and Peter Reilly local treasurer were slain in an ambush in Pittston Pa. Their deaths mark the fourth mining related murder in six weeks. Campbell had opposed contract mining and clashed with district UMWA administration.

Body of Prospector Found in Tunnel Mouth Cabin

The body of a 65 year old man, likely Paul Garchir, was found in a tunnel mouth dwelling on the Blackhawk claim four miles southwest of Butte by Williamsburg resident Ed Bryer and sheriff officers. He had been dead about a week, with the body badly torn, possibly by rats, and the coroner suspects natural causes.

A New York father reports his five daughters aged 10 to 19 organized a walk out after he disciplined one child. The daughters Rose 19 Margaret 15 Frances 14 Antoinette 10 Josephine 12 left home Sunday night and have not returned, according to James Toscano, an ice dealer.

In Chicago Mrs. Charlie Cleaver wife of Limpy Cleaver confessed to postal inspectors that she aided a $133000 Grand Trunk railroad mail robbery. Murder Vicide Verdict In Fisher Gage Case

Coroner jury rules murder suicide in the Fisher Gage case for deaths of Mr and Mrs James C Fisher in Butte last Sunday morning. They say Fisher fired three shots into his wife and then killed himself in the warm room at the Great Northern freight house. A pistol bullet and a perforated poem found in Mrs Fisher's pocketbook were highlighted as new evidence.

Vesuvius Resumes Active Eruption With White Plumes

Mount Vesuvius again shows eruptive activity with white plumes drifting over the Bay of Naples. Lava bursts from the central crater at intervals and acid clouds accompany the vents. Noted airman leads search for missing naval aviators

An extensive dusk to darkness air and sea search by army navy and marine aviators failed to locate three missing naval aviators believed lost after an amphibian plane departed Hampton Roads for Annapolis. The Navy shifted the search to northern Chesapeake Bay as crews scoured Maryland Virginia and North Carolina shores. Rear Admiral Robert E Coontz directed the operation from Hampton Roads with eighteen planes aiding the effort.

Sherman a ranch woman 17 miles south of Fort Morgan California beat her 2-year-old daughter Elizabeth Carol ine to death with a hammer then confessed saying jealousy over the child’s love for her husband drove the act. Youthful burglars confess to four schools and a store

Davy O Connor, county probation officer, secured confessions from two youths aged 14 and 16 who broke into Monroe and St Josephs schools and the A J Schwendinger grocery store on Feb 4. They sought milk money and cigarettes and left gloves with bloodstains.
