Los Angeles Ends Longest Nonstop US Flight Toward Canal

The Los Angeles dirigible completes a 2,265 mile flight from New Jersey to the Canal Zone and moors at France Field. It will head to Cuba tomorrow to anchor with the Patoka, under Commander Rosendahl, in a 40 hour onward journey.

Writers from three cities win state prelims in Montana contest

In Bozeman and Helena the state extemporaneous writing prelims yield two winners from Anaconda Helena and Butte Central with two entrants each among the top nine. Billings Belt and Whitehall also advance one each. final at Butte March 8 includes gold medal and a four year scholarship.

Tom Mix Reopens Fight for Child Guardian in Los Angeles

Film cowboy Tom Mix reopened a battle over guardianship of his 16 year old daughter Ruth with ex wife Olive Stokes Mix. A probate hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday after Mix's affidavit alleging new objections to guardian A A Kidder. The case includes Mrs Mix seeking a $1500 monthly allowance, opposed by Mix who favors $200.

Plug in Gas Tank Blamed for Brook’s Flivver Crash

Investigators conclude a tiny wooden plug in the air hole of a gasoline tank created a vacuum and halted fuel flow, causing the fatal crash of Ford chief test pilot Harry Brooks off Melbourne. The plug was found tight in place. it may have been used to shield the tank from sand and rain while the plane rested at Titusville.

Further Testimony in Carson Case Ordered by Court

An opinion from the United States circuit court of appeals for the ninth district calls for the district court of Montana to hear evidence on the privity issue in the Carson Investment Company v Anaconda Copper Mining case. The ruling notes that if privity were established, patent validity and infringement questions would need no further inquiry. Instructions require a supplemental record with findings to be certified to this court. Parties pay costs initially. final disposition will tax them.

Evidence Points to Fisher Ownership in Butte Tragedy

Discovery in James T. Fisher’s room of a loaded cartridge identical to those fired from the pistol used in the Butte killings strengthens the murder suicide theory. Coroner Pat Holland notes the cartridge matches a .32 caliber Colt automatic and cites a slit-like back wound as support for Fisher shooting Mrs. Fisher and then himself.

Judge scolds forgiving verdict in assault with deadly weapon case

In Los Angeles on February 27 Judge Charles Burnell fined Rudell Heath 1 when she pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon against F. W. Bohanan. Bohanan betrayed a promise of marriage, Heath fired five shots, and the judge said it was “too bad she did not kill him,” noting he deserves to be shot.

Man near death after starving to cure stomach ailment

Simon Martin, 38, of the Empire hotel, weakened by more than 50 days of fasting, was rushed to Murray hospital where doctors began forced feeding. He has lost speech and ability to swallow, weighs under 100 pounds from a normal 165, with recovery considered doubtful.

Energy motor claimed fuelless by Hendershot inventor

Pittsburgh news reports F W Hochstetter of Hochstetter Research Laboratories declares the “fuelless” motor of Lester J Hendershot a generator not a motor. He says it draws electricity from a concealed pencil battery and even from a house current. Hendershot mixed to explain, noting pencil cells were used in earlier tests and believing some power was drawn from the air.
