Burglars Strike Across City With Four The Night
A string of break ins reported as police noted four occurences in one night. Thieves forced entry at a Colorado mine engine room on Park Street near Ohio and stole a brass casting worth 210 dollars. Other targets included Martin Morony and Lee O Mara’s saloon at Dakota and Helena, a rear door at Jerry Driscoll’s saloon at Park and Montana, and Charles Huddleston’s home on Maryland Avenue, with clothing, a coat, blankets and purses taken. A suspect was pursued after a confrontation, shots were fired, and a later break at J Bynes 662 Maryland Avenue yielded minor losses plus a largely undisturbed home where only small items and a pocketbook were found. The Colorado mine brace casting valued at 140 dollars was linked to two men already jailed, John Benson and Ed Williams, awaiting trial for a prior brass casting theft. Patrols recovered a two thousand dollar haul of castings with parts missing and a missing pump casting later found. The thieves used wagons and took advantage of partially secured doors, with several homes left undisturbed except for minor items.
