Robbers Shoot Shopper When Demand Is Refused

Tom Carr admits being with Leland in arson case

Special Dispatch to the St Great Falls Dec 2 Tom Carr arrested yesterday on suspicion of murdering Sam Leland herder in a deserted house near Si River and concealing the crime by burning the body. Sheriff Hogan later questioned him at the county jail. He denied killing Leland but admitted leaving the burning Wiegand house. He claimed Leland woke him and said the house was on fire, he jumped through a window and walked to Sun River. He said he never owned a gun and did not know Leland was dead, thinking he faced suspicion of involvement in the arson. Carr appeared nervous during the interview with the sheriff.

Man who killed Stevens found guilty of murder

Ta Wan Chang the Korean who shot Dirham White Stevens American diplomatic advisor to the Korean Emperor in San Francisco on March 22 was found guilty tonight of murder in the second degree. The jury verdict came shortly before midnight with sentencing due December 26. The law fixes a minimum of ten years and a maximum imprisonment.
