A fuse in the dynamo room ignited a blaze that wiped out over 100000 dollars in equipment at the M. O. P. concentrator plant. About 700 workers were laid off as production halted. Adjoining buildings were saved by the swift efforts of the employees who fought the fire.
A blaze gutted the Montana Ore Purchasing concentrator and tower causing losses over 100000 and leaving about 650 to 700 workers unemployed. Firefighters from city hill teams and Parrot miners battled flames that threatened nearby buildings and a trestle stretching into the smelter complex.
In St Paul on August 28 the U.S. Court of Appeals denied writs of habeas corpus for Thomas D. Nevitt and Samuel Paden, Mo county court judges, and upheld a federal judge’s authority to imprison judges for contempt for not complying with a judgment mandate.
Secretary of State Dunbar ruled that Mrs. FE S Waggoner’s claim for the 1500 reward for finding Convict David Merrill’s body is not well founded. The state offered the reward for Merrill’s capture.

Witness William Pearson who rode on a coach roof identified the work. Sheriff Dyer reports no trace of the robbers and continues the hunt.
W D Stoner a well known traveling man ends his life in Great Falls leaving no note or reason for the act. He left no message and an explanation is unavailable.
W D Stoner a well known Montana traveling man was found dead in his Cory block room in Great Falls suicide detectives say he used a revolver. The coroner arrived and an inquest will be held with Remains sent to George Berthold undertakers. Stoner aged about 30 had long worked in Butte Helena and Chicago connected with Sprague Warner Co and Montreal Millings Co. He was a member of the Great Falls Elks and United Commercial Travelers.
Chief of Police Reddy rode a street car subdued by a masked robber on the Astor street line. The bandit demanded cash from the conductor and passengers, brandishing two revolvers and a long gun. Twenty minutes earlier another car was hailed by a thief but escaped as the motorman sped off.

Castro returns from San Casimiro to Cu a and marches on Cucumara where the government advance guard is stationed. Revolutionists hold La Democracia a few leagues from Cucumara. Telegraph and telephone lines are cut.
In Bluefields West Virginia on August 28 strikers fired on miners and tipple men at Crane creek, killing two guards and two strikers and wounding several. In Charleston West Virginia Governor White ordered the second regiment of the state national guard to the New River district.
Colonel Morrison of Parkersburg was ordered to mobilize his regiment and travel by special train to Thurmond as police and deputies confront striking miners. Sheriff Daniel of Fayette County sought help after his deputies were fired on near Red Ash during evictions for rent arrears.
Colombias minister here reports General Salvar says Berti with Colombian forces still holds Agua Dulce and rebels face a dire supply situation. Government troops total about 2,200 while rebels number around 2,500 awaiting possible relief and perhaps ten to twelve days of resistance if food holds.
Lewistown August 28 Carl Lindstrand of Flat Willow a major local sheep owner has disappeared to parts unknown. Reported cause is his embarrassed finances with an estate valued around 25900 and claims totaling more than that amount already filed against it.
L. B. Brown son of G. H. Brown of Nine Mile reports losing a pocketbook with 300 dollars on the road between Nine Mile and Martina. G. H. Brown also arrives in Missoula missing a small pistol with his travel.
