A new method replaces ground silica with slimes from concentrators to line blast furnace converters. The slimes are tamped in by three pneumatic machines in a west end pit, reducing heat damage and increasing oxygen supply. About 125 tons of slimes are used daily, saving copper and improving efficiency at the Anaconda works.
The Anaconda group advances heavy improvements at St Lawrence and Anaconda works with a new 125 foot stack, 8 foot 9 inch diameter, 64 000 pound weight, plus two 250 HP Berry boilers. Never Sweat gains reinforced power with four new engines and a 5 000 HP plant, powering an electric light system.
