Police grill suspect after arrest as Bietzel maintains innocence in death of woman found on the coast. Authorities press for details while the man sticks to his story amid intense questioning.
Police build a murder case against Russell Beitzel in the death of Barbara Mauger near Hollywood California. Beitzel is charged after a period of questioning and a night in custody. Authorities say the Philadelphia waitress died from a gunshot after an illicit relationship.
wolves Point Mont Aug 4 five men escaped with slight injuries when a hillside head-on crash 12 miles southeast of Wolf Point wrecked the Ed Johnson Richey hail adjuster car and badly damaged the F A Schmidt Wolf Point car. In the Schmidt car were Oscar Horsford Alfred Burke and a Mr Buckley. Johnson received a gash on his forehead and other bruises.
The Society of Montana Pioneers ended its forty fifth annual reunion in Butte with officers chosen by acclamation. W A Hedges of Lewistown was elected president succeeding Mrs M A Trask of Deer Lodge who had become president after Pat Carney’s death. Mollie Kline of Butte was elected vice president and Frank D Brown of Missoula was re elected secretary. Miles L Tuttle of Boulder will succeed Edward Ryan as treasurer. The executive committee was re elected. Great Falls won the bid to host the next meeting after a telegram from the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce.
W A McArthur aged 54 shot and killed Ida Wilson 28 in a crowded San Antonio street scene and then fatally shot himself. Doctors believed McArthur died from his wounds as bystanders watched on a bustling corner. (Continued on Page 19 Col 7.)

Sheriff deputies questioned five juvenile suspects and an unidentified man connected to a traffic crash that killed Matt Luoma, a 55 year old miner. Luoma died at St James hospital after being struck at East Broadway and Covert Street by a hit and run driver.

The Montana State Elks association elected Charles T. Trott of Billings as president with C. J. Carroll and F. C. Lay named eastern and western district deputies. The two day convention ended with a banquet and dance led by past president John Claxton. Next year’s meeting place to be decided by trustees. focus next year on business and attendance at the Los Angeles national convention.
United States government uses presidential warrant to extradite Henry M. Blackmer from France to Denver. He faces perjury and tax return charges connected to the Teapot Dome case. U S Marshal Callen to act after Washington’s guidance. warrant signed by President Coolidge and Secretary Kelley.
W Voris Gregory renominated on the Democratic ticket in Kentucky's first district over Garth K Ferguson with 15 386 votes to 11 991 unofficial. He will face Miller Hughes in November. In the third district John W Moore led over Thomas Rhea. C W Roark led Pleas Sanders in the Republican race.
Dr W G Fordham a Denver physician and chemist and J H Boutcher a Denver lawyer are charged with forgery and uttering forgery in connection with a will that left Fordham as sole heir to his divorced wife’s estate valued around 1 million dollars. Fordham was arrested in Hot Springs Ark and posted bond. Boutcher was expected to surrender.
A Dayton Ohio family of four, including three women and a man, were killed when their car collided with a southbound Denver Rio Grande Western train at a grade crossing eleven miles south of Colorado Springs. Coroner Howard Swan identified the victims from letters and cards found on the bodies.
AP dispatches from London report the Polish transatlantic plane Marshal Pilsudski nearing the fortieth hour of its flight with limited updates from sea vessels. The story continues on Page 8 Col. 5.
The, heat wave across the Atlantic seaboard persists with only brief thunderstorm relief. Temperatures climbed, peaking at 102 degrees in Lime Rock Fort Lee and reaching 90 in New York City, as casualties from the heat rose with seven earlier deaths and six more reported yesterday.
New York Aug 4 Governor Smith joined the sweltering crowd fleeing the city heat. He traveled to Long Beach for a dip and said politics would wait until his return to Albany tomorrow night. He had no fixed plans beyond drafting his acceptance speech by Aug 22.
Senator elect William H. Vare of Pennsylvania worsened this afternoon suffering a sudden relapse and falling into a coma. Dr. Ellwood R. Kirby, his personal physician, said he might last until tomorrow morning.
The Ford all metal tri motor transport completed a 900 mile flight from Prescott to Butte in nine hours and fifty minutes. Piloted by LaMar Nelson and Paul P Scott the giant aircraft can carry 10 passengers and includes a berth and washroom. Nelson a WWI ace once flew with Nungesser and Soissons veterans. Scott is a former army flier and mail pilot.
