Attorney General Nolan replies that the constitution allows women only as county superintendent of schools and school trustees. He cites Section 4510 of the political code on electors and notes constitutional disqualification for women.
London August 3 The parliamentary secretary of the foreign office William St John Broderick told the house of commons that the government has no new information from China. He dismissed claims that Allied operations were delayed by the British contingent.
Articles of incorporation filed in St Paul create the Great Northern Steamship company with 60,000 shares of 10 each. James J. Hill and four others from the Great Northern Railway circle are among incorporators and directors. First annual meeting set for Feb 1 in St Paul. The Hill system already includes the lake line Buffalo to Duluth and a transcontinental railroad. The new firm plans ships on oceans and navigable waters, extending to Asia.

King county delegates to the Republican state convention in Tacoma Aug. 11 are instructed to back Senator J. M. Frink of Seattle for governor. The morning session showed a harmony move after yesterday’s storms, with Frank P. Lewis named temporary chairman and S. H. Piles endorsed for permanent chair. A committee vote left Frink supporters with a solid majority for the state delegation, while B. Sherif A. T. Van de Vanter was renominated over John Wooding.
Conrad Moser a former Wisconsin Eighth district court judge and later probate court judge and state legislator was arrested in San Francisco on an attempted burglary charge after entering a residence while seeking a friend.
