In Kilrush County Clare police barracks were attacked by a large armed group last midnight. A police sergeant died, two soldiers were wounded, two royal marines were captured but escaped unhurt, and the raiders withdrew without capturing the barracks. Separately, raiders halted a 34 car train between Glaslough and Monaghan, taking crew prisoner and setting the train on fire. the engine ran with no crew for half an hour, twenty cars burned, and over 200 yards of track damaged.
Dublin reports the forthcoming Northern Ireland parliament elections will feature a united nationalist Sinn Fein challenge. Nationalists expect about 20 of 52 seats, while candidates vow to boycott parliament meetings yet accept its judicial and official roles.
Thomas J. Smith of Brooklyn, an insurance company investigator, identified Tito Ligi from a line of six prisoners as the man seen arguing with a wagon driver before the Wall Street explosion last September. Washington April 23 An new prohibition regulation fixes an arbitrary limit of five gallons of beer and three gallons of wine per prescription as the maximum a physician may prescribe at one time awaiting approval by David H Blair the new commissioner of internal revenue Prohibition Commissioner Kramer said theAttorney General Palmers opinion allows no period limit but a reasonable maximum per prescription is possible
The American Farm Bureau Federation announced an executive program to Congress including repeal of the guaranty section of the transportation act, rate reductions, equal farm tariff protection, and adequate rural credit. It opposes a sales tax and excess profits tax repeal, and favors fed regulation of farm packets and a constitutional amendment on fee securities. It urges financing reform for commodities, cattle, and personal rural credits with insurance features.

State Fire Marshal R. S. Mentrum, touring Montana cities, arrived in Butte to inspect the public market on East Mercury street amid reports that shacks along the sidewalk pose a fire menace to nearby properties. If condemned, the market must relocate or be abandoned. Mentrum noted several other old buildings in Butte are slated for condemnation and demolition.

Paul Reusch 53 proprietor of Western Cash Grocery at 2410 Harvard near Farragut fought off three bandits during a late night hold up. He sustained head and facial injuries before a street car conductor aided and the robbers fled. Officers recovered a gray cap. the men were described as young and unmasked, wearing long dark overcoats.

House bill 193 by Rep Silver provides $10 per month for each month of service up to 20 months totaling $200.
