Iowa State College athletic council announces reserved seating for the four big games. Season tickets at two dollars will include a seat number, guaranteeing a reserved seat for the holder. Previously, crowds crowded the reserve sections with little seating control.
The fall schedule lists Morningside at Ames on Sept 26 cue at Ames on Oct 8 Minnesota at Minneston on Oct 10 Cornell at Mt Vernon on Oct 17 South Dakota at Ames on Oct 24 Uni of Mo at Columbia on Oct 31 Uni of Neb at Omaha on Nov 7 Grinnell at Ames on Nov 14 and Drake at Des Moines on Thanksgiving.
Clara Burrel received a divorce from Lester Burrell who is currently serving a penitentiary term. Judge Lee issued the decree at this session of the district court.
Frank Stultz installs a large suction fan in the Cafe to remove dirt and smoke and adds a 13 foot steel range with three ovens to the kitchen apparatus.
Today at 1 pm the cup shoot on the grounds east of the city features ten events with varied bird counts. The main championship offers 25 birds. other events use 10 or 15 birds, including both barrels at 18 and 19 yards and a 10 bird miss and out. A rear door break in at Wettstein tailoring allowed thieves to steal several newly made suits worth about 200 dollars. Police were alerted but no arrests reported as investigators seek clues.
A deal closed last Saturday night made the Burton Clothing store property of L. O. Keedick. W. H. Jameson then purchased the business and will operate it as Jameson & Co. He has long been connected with the Keedick store and is expected to draw strong patronage.
Dan McCarthy crossed toward Union National bank when Ole Knudson's Reo approached. McCarthy slipped in the road and fell 10 feet from the car, which stopped 10 feet away. McCarthy cursed loudly while Knudson apologized. driver had no lights and the speed was about four miles per hour.
Former Iowa State College star Jimmie Burrows of West Des Moines plans to wed Des Moines resident Isabel Everett. Engagement announced with wedding set for early October. Burrows has worked in Des Moines as a city engineer since graduation.
Ralph Aldrich the Huxley bank cashier who defaulted on $22,000 and squandered it on the board of trade was sentenced by Judge Lee to ten years in the state penitentiary. He pled guilty and showed little surprise as the sentence was read. The sheriff will likely take him to Anamosa today.
A sophomore student, W. S. Beebe of Paullina Iowa, was hurled from the steps of a college noon car and seriously hurt as cars were overcrowded with students. The packed car carried students in vestibules and on steps, with others perched on the top amid chaotic conditions.
The Hiram Blake case was called in district court yesterday and is expected to be concluded this week.
A meeting at the college chapel last Saturday organized a large group of students into a voters club to study a voting system for Ames in the forthcoming presidential election. Many students show active interest and politics may enter the literary life with debates among literary society members. Ames men addressed the group regarding the organization.
Henry Sexy of Ellsworth and Kate Severson of Kelley were married last Sunday evening at the U B parsonage by Rev Stiverson at nine oclock. They will reside on a farm near Ellsworth.
Tuesday afternoon Charley Watkins fell from a hay loft at his home and snagged on a projecting nail. He was unconscious for about an hour, struck the ground hard, and the nail tore a deep gash near the abdomen. Physicians treated him and he is improving as expected.
Joe Stebbins, long confined in the county jail awaiting trial on an unmentionable charge, had the case dismissed this week as the state withdrew the charges before evidence was completed. Former college janitor, tried last term, witnesses scarce, held on default of bond, now released.
Major Broughton recommends sending twenty five regular cavalry horses to Ames for training at the college. The horses will be housed with the battalion during the school year to ensure they are in good condition for active use when Company C goes to camp.
Dr. Proctor purchased the grey Rambler touring car from O'Brien & Son, the local Rambler agents. Dock has used the car all week and finds it smooth, with driving safety noted as he steers clear of accidents.
Mrs Dowain Bates, living on the old Hester farm east of the city, filed for divorce from her husband through attorney B B Welty. Mr Bates vows to fight the suit and plans to name a neighbor as his wife's alleged affinity in what is described as a sensational case.
