Ames Hot Weather Brings Widespread Illness And Civic Notices
The past ten days of extreme heat have caused considerable sickness in Ames. A Labor Day pass without labor demonstrations, a college cadets and band trip to the fair on a special train, and a large community turnout at the Ames opera house for a school skit are noted. Local stories include Frank Noble’s team accident, Don Ward’s return to work, Mrs. Walter Scott’s new millinery store, a local theft incident, and an auction sale by L. E. Freeland with detailed livestock and farm-implement listings. Community events, travel to fairs, school openings, and neighborhood visits fill the page, along with weather-driven attendance shifts and social gatherings. The report also covers railroad travel plans, Klondike mining mentions, and various local anecdotes about residents and families.
