Adjourned Polk and Story Counties Joint Meeting Minutes

The Polk and Story counties boards met in adjourned joint session at Slater Iowa on Friday September 14 1906. Present were F T Morris Andrew Groves J H Mathis J B Uhl L H Deford from Polk and J O Michaelson Miles Pearson and Story auditor O B Peterson and Polk auditor Lew Burnett. Minutes were dispensed. The Polk Story drain hearing considered objections with several named parties appearing. The classification and assessments for Polk Story Drain No 1 were approved and objections disallowed. Damages claim of Nels S Helland paid 65.00. Tax levies for Drainage District No Nine set on respective tracts. treasurers to record.

Adjourned Story County Board Adopts Polk Story Drain Plan

The Story County Board of Supervisors met on September 24 1906 with all members present. They approved a drainage district plan for Polk Story No 1 funding via annual levy of one tenth of the total estimated cost 694 18 for Story County and issuing ten year bonds at up to six percent interest payable from the same taxes. They also ordered record cancellations on a 1860 mortgage and appointed election boards for numerous townships and wards for the November 1906 joint board meeting with Marshall County. Ordinance for Sanitary Sewers and Sub-Drains in Ames Iowa

Ordinance No 171 orders construction of sanitary sewers and sub drains along specified streets in Ames Iowa to protect public health. It sets pipe and tile specs, total lengths, and manholes, with costs assessed to abutting property within 150 feet, funded by sewer certificates, one year maintenance by contractor, and a one year retention of three percent.
