Stouffer the veteran end of the Iowa State Cyclones retired after the November 2 game against Nebraska in Lincoln. His four year contribution included steady play and sharp end runs, with forward passes to McElhinney, helping Ames top the score board.
Ames and Nebraska played to a 10 to 9 final after a disputed last field goal second half rally. referee Outland ruled the ball dead after a high kick that bounded between the posts, with Ames contesting the final score as the crowd praised a near perfect forward passing display by Clyde Williams and Lambert’s early place kicks.
Iowa University law students include four Ames residents pursuing law to gain admission to the Iowa bar. Jean Melchert Clara McCullough Imogene Benson and Mabel Eggert come from Clinton Osage Charles City and Ames. Benson, a former stenographer, credits economy and diligent study for her success.
The Ames Chautauqua Association board met to elect officers and appoint committees for the coming year. Officers named include J. J. Grove as president and Rev. W. S. Fowle as secretary. Committees cover program grounds advertising transportation and more with plans for a stronger next season.
After moving day, the Lockwood Grain office is shrouded in lime plaster dust from ongoing renovations. Mr. Fowler occupies current offices as carpenters shift the old building south and add an east extension. A new concrete pit will house replacement scales, and the old storage house is being replaced before winter.
City council met November 4 at city hall with full attendance and approved actions. An ordinance vacates the west portion of Duff Avenue north of Boone Street to the C N W tracks, affecting land owned by F N Fowler and the Lockwood Co. The Farmer's Telephone Co petitions to remove hitching posts on Onondaga Street and the petition is granted with orders issued before ground freezes. The season’s opening Union Depot event and Armory gathering are noted for November 9.
The street and alley committee is instructed to remove the water trough from the east end of Onondaga Street and relocate it to the south side of the Northwestern tracks. The council then adjourned.
In ten days the American Gas Machine Co. installed two plants here. One serves F. B. Spence and the other J. B. Kooser & Co. Both operate satisfactorily and emit strong light.
Local and state news columns fill the Times with concise reports and practical information. The notice promotes a dollar access deal to read the full paper up to the start of 1909.
The Oct wedding at Central Church of Christ in Des Moines joined John Woodruff of Des Moines and Louise Johnson of Ames. Rev Idleman officiated. Woodruff, a 1907 I C science graduate, works with the Midland Lyceum Bureau. The Times extends congratulations.
Prof. Henri Ruffrock of Des Moines secured Prof. Claudius Miller to be piano instructor at the Des Moines Conservatory of Music. Miller leaves suddenly to assume the post and is described as a finished musician and valuable addition to the conservatory.
Mrs Herb Nolan underwent a surgical operation at Mercy hospital in Des Moines on Monday morning and is recovering well. Drs McCarthy and Priestley performed the procedure.
