Election Day Looms Over State and County Races

A Talbott auto driven by W. W. Talbott overturned on a grade east of town after a bridge incident. Talbott suffered a badly sprained back and minor bruises while Parley Sheldon A Bauer E W Valentine and G H Maxwell escaped unharmed. Van Duzer and Roland Wed at Methodist Parsonage

Fred Van Duzer and Miss Anna Roland were married at the Methodist parsonage last Wednesday evening at 7 30. Rev George D Crissman performed the ceremony. The quiet wedding sent the couple to visit relatives in Des Moines and Menlo before returning to Ames to establish their home where Van Duzer farms west of the college.

Paving Completed on Onondaga Street Brings City Its First County Wide

The final block on Onondaga Street was set last Saturday, making Ames the owner of the county’s only paved street. No ceremony marked the finish, but workers and residents welcomed completion. Gamble Bitten by Bull Dog Near Douglass and Story

Charlie Gamble was attacked by a large bull dog while at a noonday meal, receiving a bite that led to immediate wound care. The dog showed no rabies signs and appeared to be scavenging. Charlie anticipates a swift recovery with only temporary pain.

Arbitration of county hospital finances cited by Boone case

The best reason for county hospital self sufficiency is illustrated by Eleanor Moore hospital in Boone. The last fiscal year shows a balance of 745.59 dollars with small annual deficits in some years. Over four years deficits exceeded surplus by 275 dollars, per Dr. EB Myers secretary of the board of trustees.

Mrs. Almina Sheehey died yesterday after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at her Carroll avenue residence tomorrow at 3 PM by Rev. W. IL. Fowle. Interment will follow in Ames cemetery.

Hallowe'en Night Passes Quietly Across City

Hallowe'en passed very quietly this year with no serious damages reported. The writer notes the usual depredations were conspicuously absent as youngsters enjoyed safe and sane celebrations. Ghosts and jack o lanterns appeared, while some minor sidewalk overturns and sign exchanges occurred.

Child Carl Crooks Dies of Infantile Paralysis

Carl Theodore Crooks five year old son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Crooks died yesterday morning from infantile paralysis. Funeral services were held at the family home at three o'clock yesterday afternoon led by Rev George D Crissman. Interment followed at Ames cemetery east of town.

Boys From Des Moines Walk to Ames in Seven Hours

Roland Dyer nineteen nephew of Dr Dyer and Horace Dale walked from Des Moines to Ames following famed Weston Sunday in seven and a half hours. They sought a cook. after a hearty meal they rode the interurban back to Des Moines.

Lucila Varela seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs J B Varela developed scarlet fever Sunday morning and is ill. The household was quarantined immediately and the school room disinfected Monday to prevent spread.
