Gates Family Return From California Visit

Story County Newslets reports Mr and Mrs Wm Gates and daughter Miss Mable arrived home Wednesday from a winter in California. The family are in good health and left Nevada residents prospering.

Lightning kills stock at Veneman farm in disaster

Thomson owner of the Veneman farm reports stock were killed by a lightning strike. The extent is unknown and the incident is described as a disastrous affair. The Maxwell Tribune notes hopes for no repetition soon.

Proposition for Ames Library Site and Park Gift

A May 10 1903 proposition to the Ames city government offers a warranty deed for a 0.941 acre site between Story Hoggatt and Northwest Streets for a public library and 2.25 acres south of Story Street for a public park with conditions: library on the first tract, park to be maintained, and if ever unused as a park, it reverts to donors. The offer must be accepted within 60 days. The rest notes social events for Miss Maude Henry from the Lezkim Club.

Death of Mrs Elizabeth Fields Passes at Adventists Hospital

Mrs Elizabeth Fields aged eighty three died Friday at Adventists hospital after a brief illness. She was mother to J N Fields of this city, with whom she had lived for two years. The body was taken to Maxwell, the family’s former home, for funeral services and interment in Maxwell cemetery.

Obituary of Orville Angus Cronk Dead at Under Two

Orville Angus Cronk, son of Frank and Nettie Cronk, born near Ames Story County September 26 1901, died May 25 1903 at his grandmother Jemima Bowers home of accidental scalding aged one year eight months. Survived by parents and three sisters. Funeral May 26 at 2 PM at Mrs Bowers home conducted by F D Ferrall of the Christian church. Interment in Ames cemetery.

Birth and death of Meadville native Emmet Densmore Compton

Emmet Densmore Compton was born April 25 1867 in Meadville Crawford County Penna moved to Ames Iowa in 1869 and died by accidental drowning near Ames on May 23 1903. He was a renowned piano tuner and repairer with a genial disposition and faithful friends. He leaves his father mother a brother and a sister.
