George Kimier and C. M. Allard faced five days in county jail and a $5 fine plus costs after causing a disturbance at Allard's home near the ice plant on Easter Sunday. They admitted intoxication when brought before the mayor after marshal involvement.

Confidence woman uses fake relation to swindle Ames stores

A young woman posing as M A Manning’s niece deceived clerks at several Ames shops last Saturday. She dressed in Easter attire and obtained about eighty dollars in goods including military capes a silk dress a hat plume and accessories before fleeing. Authorities warn of a possible prior resident behind the ruse.

Sheldon Chosen for Mayor of Ames

Parley Sheldon was elected mayor of Ames by a 92 vote majority. Voters also reelect M A Manning treasurer Carl Little assessor W D Meltzer George White and M Hullibarger as councilmen and W R Lambert as fourth ward representative with aldermen at large M P Cleghorn and C C Tallman. The election was quiet and officials plan a April meeting to swear in new members and organize the council.

Tragic Train Accident Claims Frank Roseborough Life

Frank Roseborough a Zearing blacksmith died after a late train incident. He attempted to jump off near the station, slipped under a coach wheel, breaking his foot and ankle. He was amputated at St Thomas hospital in Marshalltown and died two hours after the operation. He had reportedly been drinking that day.

Woman, two mistresses, and a tangle of three families

A Des Moines woman followed Pat Patterson to Ames fearing he broke a promise. Patterson and his wife and children lived in a tent near the Frank Owen home. After a county attorney hearing, Patterson agrees to marry his unsuspecting companion when he is able to support her, and the case ends with divorces and custody arrangements settled amicably.

Ames Boys to Serve as Census Clerks

Merrill Manning and Albert Fowler, fresh from the civil service exam, were notified to report to Washington as soon as appointments are made. If selected, they will begin duties in the first week of April. The one to two year posts are with the U S census bureau.

Fire destroys Gilbert farmers elevator

The Farmers' elevator at Gilbert was totally destroyed by fire Tuesday morning at one o'clock. The building valued around $8,000 housed 8,000 bushels of grain and the blaze consumed the whole structure in a few hours.
