The Nevada gas plant boiler room caught fire due to a defective flue last Friday morning. A carload of coke ignited briefly but was quenched with minimal damage, though the plant is under a receiver. Prof Noble treated at Iowa Sanitarium during vacation. Nevada band rehearsals for the summer concert season began with about 20 instruments prepared for the first practice, concerts planned for May.

Boy dies after being dragged by cow at Kelley
Eight year old Emmett Valline of Kelley tied a halter to his waist and followed a cow to a water trough. The cow jerked free and dragged him across two lots, killing him. Funeral held Sunday as a local exhibit on hydroelectric power was advertised nearby with a Pelton wheel demonstration.

Julia Arnold Wins Ames High Declamatory Contest
Julia Arnold won first honors in the Ames high school Chautauqua declamatory contest at the Congregational church. Harriet Kintzley took second place. five contestants competed. Arnold receives $5 in gold and will represent Ames at the summer Chautauqua declamatory contest.

Missing Express Package From Ames Hotel
An express package of jewelry samples valued at about 140 dollars and addressed to traveling salesman J. H. French was delivered to the Ames hotel last fall and vanished soon after. Landlord Cana day, who owns the building, found the package this week in an old closet under the stairs and informed Express Agent Rutherford. The shipment's contents had included pins, back combs, belt buckles and other ornaments. at discovery only belt buckle cards remained and the valuable pieces were gone.

Face Slashed With Razor Injures Neva da Boy
Lester Donaldson, a Nevad a youngster, suffered a four inch gash along the jaw while showing a group of children how his father used a shave knife. The cut narrowly avoided the jugular vein and the child faces disfigurement for life.

Burned Barn Fire Ends in Suicide by 19-Year-Old
Brown Michaelson, 19, son of Mrs Anna Michaelson, attempted to burn the house by lighting an old mattress. Failing, he set hay afire in the stable, tied a wire around his neck and hanged himself from a rafter. The barn burned, five horses died, and his body was found among the embers. no inquest was held.
