City Alderman Elections Quiet With Unopposed Races

Ames voters chose regular nominees in Monday’s city election for aldermen across wards one through four. In ward one Mann won with twelve votes, ward two Baker secured thirty two, ward three Hullibarger received twenty five, and ward four Wilcox earned twenty five votes.

College Boys in Trouble at Ames Train Jumping

Four Iowa State College youths were seized on Northwestern No. 6 by detectives while attempting to ride to Ames on top of coaches. They were jailed in Ames overnight and fined $22.85 each by Mayor Goodykoontz for jumping moving trains. The report notes this dangerous practice has long involved college students and Ames youths, with fatalities previously linked to stealing rides. The Northwestern plans continued prosecutions to curb the activity.

Indictments Grow as Grand Jury Returns Four Cases

The grand jury returned four indictments: Carver a Cole druggist charged with liquor nuisance, Worley Hardesty indicted for assault with intent to murder a Nevada man during a hand to hand struggle, Charles Koehne a Maxwell section boss accused of seducing a sixteen year old Bennetham, and W. T. Norris of Nevada convicted of conducting a gambling house. The first three likely to be tried this term, the gambling case may be carried to September. Excavation for the Knudson building east of the bowling area proceeds poorly with heavy digging and debris.

4th Ward Mass Meeting Sets Frustrations Over Franchise

A mass meeting at the Friends church in the 4th ward debated the interurban franchise. Opponents argued the ward outside the college campus lacked a square deal, but after explanation the tone softened and both sides agreed on equal service for college and downtown patrons. A second note: Company C 55th I. N. G. plans a two week hence benefit drama In The Far East at the Armory, directed by Jack Daniel, with proceeds for treasury. the production features Russia Japan war incidents, U.S. representatives, and elaborate scenery including New Chwang, Port Arthur, and a Petropavlovsk mine collision, plus a drum head court martial and a romance involving a Japanese girl and Lt. Horton U.S. Army. The cast is praised as strong and the show touted as a top season offering.

Championship Cup Shoot Planned East of Ames on April 8

County shoot announced by Robert Clark holder of the Ames silver cup and ground record will be held at the ganelab grounds east of the city on Wednesday afternoon April 8. Many visiting shooters expected with money purses and numerous matches in addition to the cup event. Also noting Foley’s Honey and Tar remains compliant with the National Pure Food and Drug law as a safe cough remedy for children.
