A justice court case in which U S Spring sues W D Elwell for 25 dollars after paying nine for a secondhand typewriter that was borrowed and not returned. The trial led to a plaintiff verdict and a university affiliated banquet with speeches and music at Adam's hall.
The case centers on Fred C. Graves of Maxwell, previously indicted for mail fraud, now facing a divorce petition from his wife who alleges he withheld earnings and beat her. The court granted the divorce after she testified to sustained cruelty and a nine day recovery period from a severe beating.
On March seventh Alpha Tau Omega established its Iowa Gamma Upsilon chapter with the Black Hawks club. Alumni from Nebraska Minnesota Wisconsin Kansas Missouri Wooster and Simpson helped. Installation began at ten with Dr John Van Des Vrees and Carroll Smith overseeing. charter members listed. banquet and dance followed in Adams hall and Smiths hall with chaperons Prof and Mrs C B Stanton.
F D Danforth works this week installing new cream machines for an ice cream factory to be opened in the basement under Cole's hall. The site offers an ample space for extensive trade and is expected to begin operations for the warm weather season.
A bull pup, an orphan and untagged, was seized in the Ames baggage room after arrival by number six from the west. Dr. Whitehill of Boone identified the pup as his property and the dog was sent back on the next train. The thief likely sought a valuable pup but misread the search.
Trainer Jack Watson reviews spring material and trains cadets for new work on the college cinder path. The track outlook is favorable as returning stars are in good shape for fast action before commencement week. Dan Hurst, son of Mr and Mrs Amos Hurst, underwent appendectomy last Thursday at the college hospital and is recovering well.
In Justice Thompson's court Isidore Will the tailor sued Wetstein Tailoring Co for back wages. A key letter from Wetstein stating wage range of 15 to 24 dollars per week swayed the verdict. The court awarded Will 37 dollars aided by attorney Underwood for the plaintiff and C H Pasley for the defense.
Bob Clark announces next Wednesday afternoon cup shoot at Ames club grounds east of the city. Weather may affect timing and notices will inform shooters of any changes. Last contest had too few entries, and ten eligible members are needed to compete.
Professor 8 W Beyer of engineering at Iowa State College moves to the rank of Vice Dean of the engineering division in the college of liberal arts with a salary increase. He declined two higher paying offers from Pennsylvania and Missouri, choosing to remain at Ames as a popular figure among colleagues.
