Fireman Falls From Moving Train Into Iowa River
Earl Pearson a fireman on the Eagle Grove Tama branch of the C N W was accidentally killed while firing his engine from Gifford to Eagle Grove. He apparently stepped aside to get a breath as the engine crossed a small bridge and fell into the river. The body was found later and burial took place in Eagle Grove with his in laws Mr and Mrs W Flint present.

Judge names receiver for Newton and Northwestern Railway
Last Friday in Red Oak Iowa Judge Smith McPherson appointed Parley Sheldon of Red Oak as receiver for the Newton and Northwestern Railway. The Old Colony Trust Company of Boston had managed the line which has failed to pay interest and costs, despite four years of freight operation. The Ft D M & 8 continues to run over part of the route, and a reorganization of the old company is expected.
