Railroad Paid for Injuries in Cambridge Crossing

The St Paul and Des Moines Railway Co settled five damage suits out of court by paying $2,000 to Maxwell boys Floyd Smith Leon Sabo Floyd Cooper Marvin Wells and F W Wyeth after an accident at a Cambridge crossing last fall. The suits were set for trial Tuesday morning but were resolved privately.

Burt Ball Fined After On-Duty Arrest

Burt Ball, a lineman for the city electric light plant, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on duty after being told to go home and sober up. Marshal Thompson apprehended him, he was jailed briefly, released on bail, and yesterday pled guilty before Mayor Tilden, fined $5 plus costs as a first offense.

Association to Meet in Ames

Rev. W. J. Minchin visited Des Moines Tuesday to confer with the Des Moines district committee. The association meeting will be held here this spring on April 19 and 20. The district covers 27 churches from Jewell in the north to Knoxville in the south and Des Moines area in between.

Girl Hurt by Toy Flute Causes Eight Stitches

The daughter of Mr and Mrs Mhas Christian of MacCallsburg fell on a toy flute while playing last week. She sustained a long gash in the scalp above the right eye requiring eight stitches to close the wound.

A Nevada court trial saw Joe Beach sue T. J. Lyman for 88 dollars over tile hauling from McHose works. The jury, after venue transfer, split the difference and awarded Beach 66 dollars, paying 3 dollars per day for each of two teams and drivers.

Cook School A New Home at Iowa State College

The contract for the new domestic science building at Iowa State College was awarded to Benson & Marxer of Des Moines for 57 900 dollars. Ten bids were received with top figures around 74 250 dollars. Construction starts when weather permits with a December first 1910 completion target. The site sits northeast of Margaret hall between Margaret hall and the old Agricultural hall. The white stone building will cost about 70 000 dollars.

S. W. Beyer of the college athletic council announced a schedule with Iowa University to face the Cyclones at Ames on November 5 and Nebraska at Lincoln the following Saturday. The Missouri game is set for October 22 at Columbia and Drake visits Des Moines on Thanksgiving. other dates remain open with Ames hosting Coe College and possible games with Minnesota, Grinnell, Simpson, and Des Moines likely.

George Livingston a graduate of Ohio Agricultural College is elected instructor in farm crops at Iowa State College under H D Hughes of Missouri. H B Potter a Purdue graduate previously with the Brookings experiment station is elected assistant professor of farm crops. Both arrive in the city in the coming days to begin duties.
