Local report accuses Mr. Johnson once allied with Gene Roll of cashing three checks in a Wisconsin town. The amounts were 20 dollars, 22 dollars, and 9 dollars. He is described as obtaining money with minimal effort.
Frank Rogers Atty F K Reynard and J E Christ gained possession of McColl Realty Co office fixtures in Des Moines and will run capital city offices while focusing on Texas land deals. Rogers maintains Ames office. Christ is identified as Knoxville cousin of local Dr D M Ghrist. Telephone meeting set for Ames Farmers Mutual.
Downtown churches join college for a three day Y M C A s setting up conference beginning Friday with speakers J W Pontius and C S Cooper. Program outlines sessions on Bible study leadership group formation and discipline with notes of papers and discussions.
Next Tuesday evening in the Church of Christ Ames residents may hear H. D. Williams, former pastor, deliver an inspirational lecture titled Grace and Grit. Williams leads a large Kalamazoo church and is renowned as a speaker.
Marshal Thompson arrested a Price Mercantile Co. salesman in Ames for peddling rugs without a license. Three canvassers were found with rugs and affidavits supported buyers. A Des Moines attorney defended, but the city prevailed. the rug seller paid a $12.50 fine with warning of higher costs next time.
Tickets for the Williams lecture are on sale at Grove's grocery and Holmes music store. Tickets are available now and prices are listed at the outlets.
Boys and girls in Iowa form the Iowa Junior Agricultural Union to plan an annual junior corn and small grain show and short course at Ames. The group aims to cooperate with the extension department to foster better farming and establish local corn clubs statewide.
Fred Gerbracht who lives south of the college is advertising a big closing out sale. He will move into Ames soon and build. Leslie Zumwalt living on the Dudgeon farm south of the city will move to the Gerbracht farm about the first of March. Orville Blake, conductor on the Ames and College railway, has rented the Dudgeon farm and will move out about the first of March. Orville plans to continue railroading and will rent the farm to another.
Dr Jennie Christ of Ames and Miss Connapp of Des Moines depart for a six month world tour. They travel via St Paul Miles City Pendleton and San Francisco where they sail February 5 aboard the Cleveland plan visiting Vienna Naples Oberammergau and many Asian ports before returning by Cherbourg to New York.
The new Northwestern time card, effective Sunday, alters forty changes and adds six to four, with trains moving east and west on modified schedules. Four reaches east at 12 05 p m, twelve east at 5 15 a m, eleven west at 2 15 a m, and others, including five west at 6 50 p m thirteen south at 7 00 p m fifty five south at 12 10 p m fifty six north at 11 55 p m and 58 north at 6 20 p m, no longer stopping here or at Carroll.
Clyde Parks former manager of the Iowa telephone exchange at this place has disposed of his interests at Collins to a Mr Tilton and gives possession at once. Parks plans for the future are as yet indefinite.
The McCallsburg gun club bought a gold medal and held a youth shoot at the club yesterday. The contest result has not been announced yet. Local observer Bob Clark is expected to secure the medal once it becomes available.
While helping Frank Lutter harvest ice, John M. Wills of Cambridge tangled his leg in an ice carrier and suffered a fracture of a small bone.
A celebration at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Walter I. Fowle marks the birth of a fine baby boy last night, greeted with happiness by family and friends.
Clyde Williams and his college basketball team sail west this morning to face Nebraska Wesleyan tonight. They travel Friday and Saturday for MVC games at Lincoln against Nebraska University, then return to open at home versus Drake next Tuesday. The squad features Herbert and Brown forwards Vel trup center Mosher and Walker guards Weeis and Chappel as substitutes. Herbert Brown and Mosher are holdovers from last year.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. B. F. White of Fort Dodge, who formerly resided here, though the birth was not reported at the time.
Mrs Johnstone had a heavy fall Monday morning rising from an unknown position. She survived without fractures but the shock and bruises are distressing due to her extreme age.
Mrs John Ogle is seriously ill with an attack of la grippe. The note records her illness and condition as reported in local news.
