City Council Busy Session Approves Appointments and Referrals

City council met in adjourned session at the city hall. Officers named include Tom Fultz as deputy marshal and L D Kelsey as plumbing and sewer inspector. James Montgomery resigns as street commissioner. Art McCoy appointed to fill the vacancy.

Humorist Beauchamp to be joined by Judge Alden at Chautauqua

In 1909 Chautauqua audiences will hear Beauchamp and Sam Jones and George R Stuart with Judge George D Alden named as the Humorist of the Beach and Bar. Alden is praised for wit and audience rapport promising a meaningful fun lecture. Also listed are Lot 5 a Jewell grain drill won by Silver Mine Willard Zeller and Lot 7 a Sandwich feed grinder won by Willus Kriser Rose Hill.

Iowa corn exhibit awards announced in single ear sweepstakes

The Iowa Corn Growers' association corn show concluded with grand champion single ear going to J C Frame of Salem Henry County. A L Plummer Altoona won grand champion ten ear sweepstakes and numerous districts awarded engines spreaders planters and cream separators to winners including Geo M Allee Newell J C Frame Salem and R D Redfern New London.

Short course livestock judging at Ames earns strong progress

The ninth annual Ames livestock short course reports improved judging of sheep and market types with emphasis on Southdowns Oxfords and Shropshires. Beginning and advanced classes studied breeding and market classes while Chandler Bros. supplied top Shropshire stock and lantern slides covered beef pork and mutton cuts and dairy cattle types.

Wool storage idea sparks wool industry talk at Iowa sheep meeting

At the Iowa Sheep Breeders Association convention at Iowa State College, J A Delfelder proposing Wyoming Wool Growers' plan to store wool in Omaha houses to wait for price rises, claiming a year gains of a million dollars and five cent higher wool prices. Professor Robbins urged tobacco as worm treatment, drawing protests before subsiding. Officers elected include J L Plumly president E L Bitterman vice president and E S Leonard secretary.

Missionary Rally to Be Held in Ames by S J Covey

The National Secretary of Missions S J Covey of Cincinnati Ohio will visit Ames Monday with foreign missionaries to present the Heathendom claim at the Christian church. He will speak twice at 2 30 pm and in the evening. No subscriptions or pledges will be sought. a free will collection will defray expenses.

Reverend Sage to Speak at St John’s Episcopal Church

Rev. John C. Sage of Dubuque will conduct services at St John’s Episcopal Church next Sunday afternoon at 4 30. He leads the diocese fund to provide another bishop for Iowa. No solicitations will be made at the church service. He is known as a capable speaker and all are invited to hear him.
