Million-Dollar Boone County Railroad Sale at Court House

The Newton and Northwestern Railway was sold at public auction in Boone for one million dollars to Old Colony Trust Company represented by F. M. Holmes of Boston. Judge Henry conducted the sale with deposits of 90000 for nonholders and 29500 for bondholders, awaiting court confirmation. The result likely keeps the interurban and trackage under Old Colony control, with possible electrification of stub ends and regional economic benefits for Boone and the Fort Dodge Des Moines Southern system.
