He gathered 300 seed lots of hardier clover and alfalfa, including a Siberia alfalfa promising high value, and brought them to the Agriculture Department. He endured cholera exposure and extreme cold in the Gobi Desert and Siberia where temperatures fell to 80 degrees below zero.

Cream Factory Moves to New Home on Story Street
F D Danforth moved his ice cream and pop factory from the Cole building to the Read building on Story street near the Arlington hotel. The interior has been rebuilt with cement floors, new ceiling and siding, and fresh paint to improve sanitation. The plant will house a full line of soda fountain supplies and a skilled ice cream man from Monmouth Illinois will run the operation, with Danforth likely on the road most of the year.
