A reader recounts a Western coast journey from Seattle to Los Angeles via Portland San Francisco Oakland and Santa Barbara. He notes natural scenery oil wells mission visits Berkeley and Santa Barbara landmarks and impressions of Los Angeles with the Perkins family and friends.
The report notes temperatures above normal with cooler latter days and light, scattered showers. Northern corn remains strong while late planted and poorer ground suffer from drought. potatoes and pastures harmed in dry areas. Threshing mostly finished. 1909 crop acreages listed, including corn 8,213,280 and pastures 8,901,970. Another brief note mentions a train story and the need for rain.
Miss Bessie I Nash and Guy B S Ellis married August twenty first at the Nash home. Rev Walter Frwie officiated as guests and relatives gathered for a green and white wedding with a three course luncheon. Out of town attendees included Mrs Preston W Brown Miss Leita L Lockwood and others from Madison Renwick College Park Chicago and Montour.
Miss Glendora Bryant resigns as stenographer for the Register and Leader in Des Moines and will start in Prof. Kennedy's office at the college next Monday. Miss Mary Bryant takes over in Prof. Curtiss' office starting last Monday.
Steward Frank Lang reports Story county’s oats yield at the county farm reaching an average of 56 bushels per acre. He credits the result to careful planting and seed selection rather than improved land quality.
The Ames Commercial Club executive committee met at Mc Cartney and Judges to invite the Iowa Rural Mail Carriers Association to hold its next gathering in Ames. The association received the invitation in Des Moines yesterday.
