Jennie Pace Major born October 26 1873 in Kingston Pennsylvania died August 17 1910 at Ames Iowa. She married GC C Major on Christmas Eve 1896 and lived in Ithaca Ohio Columbus and Ames where they settled about September 1 1908. Survived by husband a son Harold two sisters and friends. She founded the Twentieth Century club and remained active despite lifelong knee injury.

In a poor health man’s death authorities say excessive heat drove him to a rash act after setting up property disposition. The deceased, Mr Morrison, was found by a janitor next morning with guns turned on and gas turned on through keyholes. He was connected to Chester Morrison of Chicago formerly from Boone Street. A new fountain in the city park, installed by the Civic Improvement Society, proved popular during Chautauqua week as attendees paused to drink.

Ames Chautauqua wrapped up its fifth annual meeting with record attendance and receipts. Highlights included Chicillio band and Mascot the trained horse, with Friday’s final day featuring a declamatory contest won by Tina Eide of Slater.
