The city electric light plant added an addressograph for envelope addressing. Monthly statements, once ahands, required forty five minutes to address. Previously it took two days for each month’s mailing. The device is a time and money saver for the city.

Elmer Winters was taken to the Eleanor Moore hospital at Boone on Monday after suffering paresis. During the storm last Wednesday night he rose to close windows, then went back to bed and could not be aroused the next morning until Dr. Christ arrived to treat him.

Professor King Accepts Escanata School Post
Supt F E King last week accepted an $8,000 position as head of the schools at Escanata Michigan and will leave for that place next week. Mrs King and part of the family will remain to dispose of home property. Ruth King will attend Ann Arbor this year and Fenner will go to Garrett. Fire in Grove store furnace alarms neighborhood
Thick smoke hung over the Grove store around 9 30 p m on a warm night. A passerby alerted the telegraph office and firefighters found the blaze smoldering in the furnace in the basement under the Grove grocery. The furnace was filled with trash and a match had been lit earlier.

Fire Destroys Large Barn Behind Lydia Tillen Property
Yesterday at about 3 15 pm a major fire gutted the rear barn on Mrs Lydia Tillens property as neighbors failed to reach central by telephone. The barn stored hay storm windows and sash and other goods. no animals were present. Nearby dwellings suffered some blistering but were saved by the fire company. Insurance of 250 covered part of the contents.

State Convention Progressive Yes Des Moines
The Republican state convention in Des Moines favored progressive policies from start to finish. It endorsed the progressive platform while giving Taft only honorable mention. They renominated H. D. Deemer and W. O. Evans for supreme judges by acclamation. A. M. Deyoe of Hancock County was nominated for state superintendent on the second ballot, with Welty of Story county dropping from first to no longer a candidate. The progressive majority on a test vote stood at 244.

Mrs. Ed Huntley was on the sick list the past week. J. W. Bateman made a business call at Story City Tuesday. Miss Lottie Bateman spent couple of days in Nevada last week. Miss Tressa Swanson from near Nevada spent a few days the past week at the Warren home. A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood at the Mason home on Wednesday July 20. Mrs. Ed Griffith from Ames visited her brother James Carr and family the first part of the week. Grandpa Mills father of Wm. Mills who is in failing health has been very poorly the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. John Scott went to Gilbert Sunday to visit Mr. Scott's sister Mrs. Bissell and family. Mrs. H. G. Erb returned Sunday from Des Moines where she has been the last two months for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Crooks and little daughter Hazel from Nevada spent Sunday at the Andrew Crookes home. Mr. and Mrs. Allie Bateman and Mr. and Mrs. Brokaw went to State Center Sunday in the Bateman auto. Willard B. King went to his home in Alexandria Indiana, last Friday for a months vacation with his parents and other relatives and friends. The ladies of the Baptist church from Ames had a very enjoyable ice cream social at the home of Mrs. Carey in west Milford on Tuesday eve. Mrs. T. J. Sowers and son John are spending a few weeks in Oklahoma, hoping the change may prove beneficial to the son who is suffering from asthma and hay fever.

Death of 10 months old Kenneth Goodnow
Kenneth Goodnow died Friday morning at six o'clock in Napier from cholera infantum. He was the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. G Goodnow of Woonsocket South Dakota. Funeral services were held at his grandparents’ home west of Ames, conducted by Rev. Minchin. Interment followed in Ames cemetery.
