Justice Thompson presided over a dispute at the Nichols home ending with Nick Nichols pleading guilty to assault and battery and receiving thirty days in the county jail. The Iowa National Guard Company C from Ames will depart August at 8:00 a.m. by interurban to Des Moines to join the 54th regiment and prepare for conflict. Regions 53d and 56th will meet at Slater to form blue army under Gen. Bishop while 54th and 55th form brown army under Gen. Lincoln.
