Justice Thompson presided over a dispute at the Nichols home ending with Nick Nichols pleading guilty to assault and battery and receiving thirty days in the county jail. Al Anselberger the tailor faced ten days for drunkenness. The melee started after a confrontation over electric lights and escalated to police intervention.
Sheriff brings Frank Dvoracek from Fort Dodge on wife desertion charges. Tried in Justice Knudson's Nevada court, bound over to grand jury. Wife cared for two children through typhoid. case marks first prosecution under new state law. If indicted, Dvoracek faces at least one year in penitentiary. He is jailed for lack of bond.
A lively band concert drew crowds last Friday night as performers kept up a long program. State Socialist organizer Dr Hills spoke on the streets Saturday afternoon railing against labor saving machines. He urged a critique of seventy men displaced, but locals say plenty of work exists. Range & Alm shoe store received new furniture and plans to move in soon, with Geo E Baker vacating to allow setup and a refined shoe line.
The Iowa National Guard Company C from Ames will depart August at 8:00 a.m. by interurban to Des Moines to join the 54th regiment and prepare for conflict. Regions 53d and 56th will meet at Slater to form blue army under Gen. Bishop while 54th and 55th form brown army under Gen. Lincoln.
A new time card rule began last Friday at midnight and will apply to all bargaining unit workers. The change introduces revised pay calculations and tracking requirements and is expected to affect overtime eligibility and shift reporting.
