The Iowa State Board of Health revised and adopted new rules for quarantine and disinfection on August 28, 1907, outlining preventive measures against contagious and infectious diseases.
A historical state health regulation text outlines contagious diseases and duties of mayors, clerks, and sanitary police. Quarantine, notices, reporting, and disinfection protocols cover schools, milk sales, and poultry. It details release conditions, vaccination, and penalties.
The document details restrictions on entering quarantined premises with written permits, and mandates physicians wear protective gowns and disinfect gear. It defines isolation as complete patient separation and requires disinfection of all items used in the patient area.
A historical definition of disinfection distinguishes it from antiseptics and sterilization. Disinfection uses chemical agents to destroy germs, while antiseptics prevent growth without guaranteed destruction, deodorants remove odors, and sterilization implies complete germ elimination by heat.
