Civic Improvement society to meet next Monday at 3 p m
Local clubs and societies report a busy slate of events from mid May through early June. A May dance at Smith's hall drew many guests, while the Baptist Ladies Aid raised forty to fifty dollars at Odd Fellow's hall. A Priscilla Club meeting is planned for May 13 with Mrs Stevenson, and Mrs McLean and Mrs Hodson are the day committee.

Nonpareil Club Meets on Mrs Dyer Topic Series
The Nonpareil club met last Wednesday with Mrs Dyer guiding the discussion on Our Early Missions. Mrs Read presented Our Italy and Dr Jones spoke on Japanese and Chinese of California. Several guests attended including Mrs E J Smith Mrs Jamison and Mrs Ayres of Sheldon.
Kindergarten to be run by Mrs Clark this summer
Mrs Mabel Clark will conduct a kindergarten for small children this summer beginning the Monday following public school close June 1. It will meet in the central building room where she currently teaches. Interested parties may contact Mrs Clark at 603 Hoggar Avenue or 434 Mutual.

The P. EB. O. Society met Tuesday with Mrs. BE. W. Stanton to discuss Carrie Jacobs Bond the musician. Dr. Frances Stewart gave a character sketch and selections of Bond’s compositions were performed by Miss Jessamine Beyers Edith Cairns and Ethyl Cessna. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Budd on May 19 and delegates will report on the grand chapter meeting in Cedar Rapids next week.

Old Time Needle Work and Historic Artifacts Exhibit
Mrs Marston displayed samplers and several pieces of antique needle work along with a Latin Bible once owned by Mrs M B Reynolds now with Captain Brown printed in 1544. Items contributed by Mrs F W Willey included the Brewster Sun Dial and a 125 year old lithograph emblematic of America. A foot stove, embroidery by Mrs Greeley, and Russian Siberia articles from Mrs Budd and daughter were shown. Light refreshments in a candle lit dining room complemented the display.

Letters From Far Away Juneau Pupils Open Exchange
A third grade pupil in Juneau Alaska writes to Mrs Mabel Clark of Ames expressing a wish to exchange correspondence. In a April 23 1908 letter from Juneau Alaska Eugene F Calvin writes to Jessie Richter about life in the capital. He notes a warm winter the surrounding mountains a small harbor with several boats and two wharfs. He mentions about 40 children in the local school room with two grades per room and a population around 1500 people.

Senior Reception for high school graduates at Alumni Hall
The junior class hosted an annual senior reception Saturday evening at Alumni hall. Teachers were guests. The evening featured games and a guessing contest on the second floor, followed by a chapel program with well executed numbers.
