Henry Heard a 10 year old from near Zearing died from a 22 caliber rifle bullet fired while his six year old brother held the gun. The fatal shot occurred in a stable yard Saturday. Coroner Bailey ruled death accidental. funeral held Monday at Cole with Rev. A M Elliott officiating.
Arthur Bauer purchased the Mrs. Baker Fellows cottage adjoining the Heater property on State Street this week for a consideration of 2500 dollars.
The stork visited the Bob Ricketts home Monday delivering a bouncing boy. Mr and Mrs Harry Murphy celebrate the birth of a big baby girl born on Monday of this week.
The Ames Produce Company assigned last Saturday morning and named C L Liverly as trustee. Creditors, led by J G Cherry Cedar Rapids J Jacobs J B Kooser Co Tilden Bros Co and a local bank, will receive a small percentage of their claims after liquidation. The failure is blamed on heavy winter stock and prices falling after the flood.
In a special election Ames voters approved a 25 year gas franchise for Edward G. Pratt of Chicago by a 29 to 64 vote against the measure. The project estimates a $40,000 plant, with mains to serve residents within nine months and full gas supply to be ready in eighteen months, including at least five miles of main pipes. Ward-by-ward results followed.
The Iowa State College baseball team will play Morningside College this afternoon at 4 o'clock due to yesterday's wet ground. A fast game is promised.
The Baptist church has hired B. J. Sweatt Co to complete plans and specifications for a new church. The firm, featuring a premier central Iowa church architect, will finalize the designs soon and publish full details for the public.
The executive committee of the commercial club met Monday evening and outlined plans for the near future. They will consult the M E church ladies about a supper to discuss Omaha business men's excursion, the Fourth of July project, and a trophy for the Iowa Small Grain Growers Association show this winter. The supper date will be announced soon.
An Iowa statewide organization named the Iowa State Launderers Association was formed at Cedar Rapids last Monday with 34 charter members from leading laundries. F. J. Kimball of Waterloo was elected president and George Dixon was chosen secretary to improve public service across the state.
At the trustees meeting on the 15th, Trustees Hungerford Allyn and McElroy were appointed a special committee to work with Story and Boone counties' citizens in arranging a Fourth of July celebration marking the college’s fifty years since its founding in Ames.
Glen Maxwell of this place was arrested by Sheriff Nicholson of Marshall county in Marshalltown last Saturday morning on a charge of outraging Genevieve Farrington of Nevada. He escaped from Sheriff Rickets at the Nevada depot earlier and was jailed at the Nevada county jail after a few hours in custody.
One year after joining Patterson Daye company Ernest D Pitsor and Phyllis Daye married in San Antonio Texas forming a life partnership. They plan to return home after weeks on the road. Meanwhile a separate case reports Sheriff Ricketts recapturing a fugitive. The accused man enticed a 14 year old girl into a country ride then assaulted her and is held on $5,000 bond awaiting next court term for rape charges in Maxwell county.
The Times records the marriage of Miss Mildred Bowers and Mr. J W Reynolds in Tacoma Washington on April eleventh and their home after April twentieth at 616 South O street Tacoma. Miss Bowers is known in Ames as Mrs Lou Allen’s former pupil and former city teacher who recently moved west with her family. The paper extends congratulations.
The remains of Mrs. Burnside mother of Charley Queal arrived from New York. The funeral is set for tomorrow at the U B church with Rev. Warner Johnson officiating. An obituary will be published next week.
A Sunday morning lightning bolt destroyed the large Greeley farm barn one mile southwest of the college, burning timber and its contents. Owner Mr. Ware estimates losses around $500 for machinery and grain, with the barn built three years ago at a cost of about $800 and partially insured.
Lefty Harris strong on mound allowing two hits as Ames defeats Kansas 3 0 in the second game of the season. Parks adds two base hit and Harris drives a run with a fifth inning single. Kansas misplays a fifth inning overthrow allowing two runs and tallying three errors in the field.
