Brewers Discuss Prohibition and Steamer Disaster at Burlington
The Iowa Brewers Association met in Burlington on April 23 with about fifty attendees. Magnus of Cedar Rapids was elected president, Rudolph Long of Davenport secretary, and Matthias Frahm of Davenport treasurer. They approved a two dollar per hundred barrels assessment to fund a legal challenge to the prohibition law and urged liquor dealers to help form an organization to oppose it. The group adopted resolutions denouncing the prohibition effort and defending the majority of the Iowa Supreme Court. A secret afternoon session finalized these actions.
