Central Hello Scheme to Link Americus to Columbus by Phone

A proposed long distance telephone plan would connect Americus with Buena Vista and Columbus via a line extending through Ellaville. The project would cost about $1800 for copper wire and would operate on a subscription model with interest, offering merchants prepaid telephoning credits and requiring the company to bear running costs. Local merchants surveyed expressed cautious approval, noting potential competitive advantages if Columbus connects to Buena Vista. Regulators and citizens are asked to consider the plan as Atlanta and Marietta already enjoy regional telephony and railroads may adopt similar service.
