The Story of X Men on Monterey Trail

In a dusty Monterey coast range, Concho, exhausted and intoxicated, meets a sinister American who pretends to aid him with ore for silver. The stranger's tests reveal true sulfide values, driving Concho to accept a costly plan and entrusting his mule and future to a grasping, malevolent figure. The tale foreshadows a doomed collaboration at a Mexican land grant named in lore as the Gulch of the Visitation of the Devil.

The landscape shows dwarf trees, rock faces, and miner marks as the scene shifts toward a smoky camp.
