In Americus a furniture factory began operation yesterday with the planers and saws to be used first. Machinists tested the equipment as timber moved from rough lumber to cutting, planing, mortising, moulding, and painting stations. Officials note a satisfactory water supply and expect it to grow as use increases, marking a sign of local prosperity.
An elderly black man in Forsyth Street laments no letter arriving and suspects a sent sum perhaps a dollar, while a stockholders meeting notice for the Southwest Georgia Alliance Manufacturing Company in Americus Georgia calls for September 16. The note stresses the meeting’s importance and urges attendance.

One of the most attractive vehicles on Americus streets is St Hawkins new meat delivery wagon drawn by a fine team. The bright wagon gleams and the jangling bells on the harness add to its charm as Bi and his market keep pace with Americus growth.
A carpenter named Major Murray fell about twenty five feet from scaffolding at a new residence on Lee Street near city limits. He sustained deep facial cuts and arm injuries, bruises, and was treated at his boarding house after Dr. C A Brooks examined him. Superintendent Rees arranged a safer transport route to minimize pain during relocation.
Weston Ga September 10. Dr W C Paschal and wife visited relatives. W H King and M F Saunders visited Richland on business. C J Saunders and W H Sims visited Cusseta last Sunday. O T Kenyon went to Albany on business. James P Walker nominated in Webster and Stewart counties by 275 votes. Jessie Crymes visiting relatives. M T Saunders returned from Richland visit. Sims Dennard firm to become G W Sims Co with M B Trench joining. Walter Torry from Preston visited with Annie Crymes. Archie Patterson escaped injury when horse bolted over a hog. J E Dennard went to Savannah. Whittling Club absent. correspondent to meet J W Summerford and J B Troutman next week. Hood’s Sarsaparilla rising in popularity.
The Dawson public school opened with 217 pupils enrolled and 208 present at ceremonies led by Supt. W. M. Robinson. Expect 360 to 400 pupils next term. M. D. Laing & Bro opened a general store in the former Laing place. Emanuel Mann visits his daughter Eva Harris in Dawson. Bob Aycock jailed for forging orders. Americus visitors A. F. Brewer and J. A. Speight noted. Strangers occupy, while locals seek houses to rent or buy.
In Dawson Georgia on September 4 nominees for county officers were chosen at precincts. Incumbents selected for clerk, tax receiver, treasurer, surveyor, and coroner. Sheriff drew three candidates with D Christie winning by a large majority. Two candidates vied for tax receiver with J H Crouch capturing the post by 174 votes. A marriage occurred at Maj E J Harris residence as T J Hart wed Mrs Mattle Keith with Rev W M Hayes officiating.
Webster county held a Saturday primary for Senator and Representative. Jas. P. Walker won 215 votes to J. B. Hudson 01 for Senator. For Representative W. M. Bears led with 234 votes, S. Lunsford 82, with Walker and Sears praised as intelligent progressive farmers prepared to serve.
The Savannah contractor wins a city contract to bore an artesian well dubbed an eighth bore. The city will pay 4 cents per foot and expects to start immediately with piping, aiming for a 1000 gallons per minute flow to enhance the reservoir and water quality.
The Friendship Baptist Association held its general meeting with Smithville Baptist Church in Lee County starting August 20 1890. Elder G W Weekly served as moderator with Geo T Jennings as clerk. committees were appointed to handle preaching subjects Sabbath observance and Sabbath school benefits. sessions continued with prayers sermons and discussions on church life and hospitality.
In Lesile Locals Lustim Georgia dated September 4 a lively town summary highlights rising affluence and community pride. It notes a thrifty atmosphere with mills a turpentine distillery a commissary store and strong mercantile firms. Local business changes include Wilson Pryor Co selling to A T Johnson Co and Mr A P Greene continuing farming. Farmers face poor crops from hail cold rain and drought with corn averaging twenty bushels an acre and cotton blighted. The piece promotes land sales by J W Bailey offering 600 acres adjoining DeBota with railroad access.
