Grand Jury Presentments on Sumter County Roads and Buildings
The October Term 1888 Grand Jury reports roads and bridges in need of repair notably Hodges Bridge over Sweet Water Creek and the B. W. and E. R. R. bridge near Andersonville. They praise the new courthouse but urge closing open windows at the old courthouse and a cleaner jail. They commend the Poor House management, note inmate counts, and report on county books and finances. They address jail security after a past escape and propose reforms, call for publication of presentments, and acknowledge local officials.
