Dawson's Double Wedding and Local Growth Reflected

In Dawson the Wednesday double wedding at Arrington residence united Jay A Lowery with Missouri Arrington and James W Paul with Laura C Arrington amid a rain dampened but celebratory scene. Attendants from Macon Valdosta and Quitman attended as Rev E B Carroll officiated. The event followed by a feast and generous gifts worth about 500 dollars. Also praised is Capt W E Wooten, lauded as future leader of Southwest Georgia, and mourned is Prof W H Allen of Americus. The community notes infant death, property moves, court house election date, and cotton crop troubles from rain.

Rain damages cotton crop as Roney braces for Baptist meeting

In Roney Georgia on October 1 heavy rain harms the cotton crop with sprouts in fields. The Baptist Association convenes at Friendship starting Friday 11 o'clock and runs through Sunday night. Abbeville Superior Court Adjourns With Noted Convictions

Abbeville Georgia September 27. Superior court adjourned with many cases disposed this week. Bill McMillan found guilty of murder and life imprisonment. Bill King convicted of assault with intent to murder and five years. H S McDuffie convicted of selling intoxicants with a 200 dollar fine. Grand jury urged adjournment term and building a county jail with a chain gang to be established. Abbeville continues to build up.

Sanford urges contractor licensing for Americus workers

From Montezuma Georgia on October 1, a letter-writer urged Americus to license contractors and require recommendations from previous employers for all laborers, including outsiders, to control work and secure better wages, urging readers to consider systemizing labor management.

Transfers of Property Recorded in the Clerk's Office

The week yielded several property transfers with modest sums. Clara Lewis and Victoria Mitchell exchanged claims on a city lot for $50, then Mitchell and Lewis sold to Georgia Anna Dudley for $160. B H Wilkinson moved 50 acres in the southeast corner of lot 172 for $465. J A Hixon sold a city lot to Aaron Johnson for $125. H Jossey transferred a house and lot to H R Johnson for $3,000. Thomas M Allen sold 31 acres in Leslie to John W Bryant for $300. T J Harden sold three acres off lot 161 in the 20th district for $20.

He notes crowded offices, scarce rooms, and soaring growth as he observes ongoing street mains and rising residences, with offers to practice in other cities but his belief in Americus’s bright future remains strong.

Improvements On Streets Near 5 AM Crossing

A reporter notes major street work around the 5 AM crossing, especially on Jackson street. Gas lamps removed, sewer pipes laid, curb stones set from the railroad to College avenue, and work nears completion making the walk to College avenue among the best in the city. The college area gains fresh paint grounds and ongoing site activity signals rapid progress.

Arm Amputation After Cotton Gin Accident Near Ellaville

W H Justice, superintendent of Parker's cotton gin on Ellaville road, suffered a severe arm injury when his sleeve was caught in machinery. The arm was amputated near the shoulder by Dr J B Hinkle and his son. Justice was taken home four miles from the city after treatment.

Train wreck at McIlhye rs on W and A line kills fireman

Special to Reconpen reports a passenger train derailed early today at McIlhyer s on the W and A railroad. The engine and four cars left the track after an open switch. Fireman Richard McClain was killed and engineer Clifton Adamson seriously injured. Passengers were shaken but none fatally hurt. Authorities suspect the switch was opened to wreck the train.

Wreck on S A M railroad at Smith Thompson mill

A derailment occurred between Cor dele and Penia at Smith Thompson's saw mill yesterday afternoon. The local freight train stopped at a grade and collided with the through train, causing the engine to overturn and the caboose to be wrecked. several cars were badly damaged. Conductor Mathis and engineer W D Flint on the freight train faced the impact, while through train engineer DuBove and conductor Guerry escaped unharmed. Work crews rushed to the scene by 6 o'clock to clear wreckage and repair the line.

State Fair Sumter exhibit led by J F Ross

The Macon State Fair opens on the 22nd with a Sumter county exhibit led by J. F. Ross. He has gathered farm products to showcase Sumter’s resources and urges countywide contributions. Car transport planned from Smithville on the 17th and Americus on the 18th. contributors should prepare by those dates.

Amatuer skater injured in pavilion mishap near track

A young skater Charley Hudson suffered a dislocated wrist after slipping on improvised boards in the pavilion by the electric car crossing the 8 A M track. He was brought to the city and received medical care for the injury.
