Farming Pays in Sumter County For 1879 and 1889
The Recorder argues farming pays in this southwest Georgia county when run as a business. It cites J W Mize’s tax records showing a sample of successful farmers like Council M B and Parker Barney, among others, with property values rising from 1879 to 1889. It notes most started with little capital, yet achieved steady earnings and urges cash farming, diversified crops, and home provisioning. It ends with testimonials about Electric Bitters from local residents.
