New Orleans Exposition to Open December 1 1884
New Orleans prepares a six month World Industrial Exposition starting December 1 1884. A vast main building 1656 by 60 feet with a 115 foot tower and a 11000 seat music hall rises in City Park, drawing thousands as crews build a world class conservatory and livestock exhibits. The plan includes extensive railway access with widespread cut rates to attract visitors from the North and abroad, plus a national government exhibit area and cotton industry displays highlighting the Centennial.
