Americus Fire Tourney Draws 10000 Plus Crowd
In Americus crowds estimated from 6,000 to 10,000 filled the grand stands for the Wide Awake tournament. The event featured fire companies Wide-Awake Americus and Wheatleys of Americus, Dawson Protection, Griffin No. 1, and Stonewall of Griffin with rapid hose relay, time-keeping, and prize awards totaling 375 dollars. Wide-Awake wins big with 244 in first test and 1855-100 in second. Wheatleys set record 244. Stonewall and GriffinNo.1 perform strongly, Dawson falters on balance of hose and couplings. The day ends with receptions, speeches, and praise for American fire outfits and community support.
