Kaolin Discovery in Georgia Prompts Prospect of Pottery Industry
Professor Caldon reports a widespread kaolin deposit in Georgia spanning Fulton to Greene and beyond. He notes kaolin’s value for fine china, its need to be grit-free, and that Georgia belts near Atlanta and Cave Springs yield superior white clay. Other counties like Dade and Lumpkin hold rich beds, with trials suggesting Georgia could host significant potteries rivaling Russia and Cornwall.
