Death of Henry Frye at Americus saw mill site
Henry Frye, about 45, died Wednesday near Church and Brown streets after assisting in laying flooring for a residence at Mr. Stewart’s saw mill. The physician cited apoplexy. he had been ill days and was a hard drinker. Buried in the colored cemetery. A $530 music box giveaway promoted by Luke & Hays at De Soto is noted. A separate item blames a cowardly act for the poisoning of bream at Rees Park Lake, harming Mr. Windsor’s fish collection.

Bonds for Americus Light and Power Company Issued
Sixty thousand dollars in gold bonds signed by the president and treasurer finance Americus Light and Power. Forty thousand retires outstanding Americus Gas Light bonds and twenty thousand funds an electric light plant. Bonds run twenty years from July 1 1889 to 1909 with semi annual coupons.

Big Fourth Saturday Barbecue At Friendship Church
Farmers of the 17th district plan a large barbecue on the fourth Saturday in July at Friendship church eleven miles from Americus. John Ed Thomas will be among the managers. Public invited to bring full baskets. Bachelors and young men invited to fill in. A music band is expected. Cabinet photographs offered at Van Riper's for 2.50 per dozen for 30 days. Also notes a 55 pound loggerhead turtle caught by George H. Seig in Bear creek Terrell county.

P C Cleggs Hose Company Names and Officers Elected
At a regular meeting the small boy's hose company unanimously voted to name the group P C Clegg's and their reel Lucille Clegg. Officers elected include Foreman Jesse Pope Ass't Foreman Ked Bell Hose Director Tom Bell Ass't Hose Director Carr Glover Secretary J C Wheatley Treasurer P C Clegg. The company has 30 to 40 members. The broad gauge on the 8 A M road eastern division has been completed and standard gauge engines and cars will be put on this week. Four new engines are at Cordele awaiting service and several first class coaches are ordered. A double daily passenger train and an accommodation train will run on the line.

Central bonds placed boost Savannah and Western rail plan
Five million dollar five percent bonds for the Savannah and Western railroad have been placed in New York, with funds in the company treasury. Proceeds will first cover floating construction debts, then support further branch lines or other uses per directors. Belknap says branch from Tidea to Eastman will be let, Eastman to Americus to intersect Georgia Southern and Florida near Cordele. Building Boom In Americus Prompts Hotel Expansion
Americus shows a high level of construction with new houses and repairs everywhere. The Allen House plans enlarging to three stories by building north over the warehouse, tearing down the connects building, and housing the post office and People’s National Bank. The warehouse will relocate to Hampton Street near the depot to ensure better access for the compress and railroad.

Kansas City to Join Ocean Steamship Fleet
The Ocean Steamship Company of Savannah plans to add the Kansas City to its Savannah New York service in fall. Built at Chester, she will replace the City of Savannah on the Boston Savannah route and aimed to be the fastest and most commodious steamship in American merchant marine.

Bicycle Club Organizes With Twenty Members In City
Monday evening last a group of young men met at the Bank of Southwestern Georgia and formed a bicycle club. W M Jones was elected president Charley Davis secretary and treasurer. Fifteen to twenty members own new machines and are becoming experts. They are having riding knee pants made and will present a stylish appearance on the streets. Some of the finest machines in the state are owned by members.

Masonic Celebration By Train Proceedings In Plains
Masonic Lodge of Americus invited Furlow lodge from Plains of Dura to join a St John’s Day celebration. A special train carried members while the Wide Awake band provided music. Exercises occurred in the Methodist church, with dinner in the nearby grove. Return was at six o’clock after a day of recreation and pleasure.

Long Trestle Near Abbeville For S A M Road
Capt A R Coulter and Mr J J Smyth visited the city yesterday to oversee the nearly finished long trestle at Abbeville for the S A M road crossing the Ocmulgee swamp. The structure spans nearly a mile and will be ready for trains by next Saturday. Grading between McRae and Abbeville is nearly done and trace laying will begin soon on that section.

Savannah Rail Line Fund Drive Nearing Goal
