Last Stand at Bentonville Reveals Hard War Tactics
In a detailed narrative from Bentonville North Carolina March 1365 General J. E. Johnson fights his last battle. The 5th Georgia under Lieutenant O'Dunshoe adapts a night maneuver to retake the rifle pits. Shells explode, trees topple, and the regiment holds and withdraws at dawn. Wade Hampton aids, and the troops exit unseen. Later the piece shifts to agricultural advice on soil humus and nitrogen, advocating crop rotation with cowpeas and weed plowing to free soil nutrients.
