Central railroad expansion and steel rails project progress
The Central railroad announces major ballast operations from Griffin to Atlanta and Griffin to Savannah, with a $300,000 cost estimate and a three-year timeline. It reports large granite ballast deposits near Griffin, a crusher capable of high daily output, ten new engines and orders for forty-three more locomotives, and an order for sixteen hundred cars to expand rolling stock. Steel rails begin on the Savannah division and extend toward Atlanta, with 1,000 tons of rails furnished monthly.
